A Copiah County Hazlehurst MS. Black History Moment

Ex-Slave Dies In Wesson Mississippi
It happened on this day January 30, 1936, Bill Terry an ex-slave who lived near the Wesson Mississippi Cemetery, for the past 50 years, was found dead in his home. He was nearing the age of 90 years and had become feeble during the past few weeks.
Following the close of the Civil War, he came to Wesson after obtaining his freedom. According to the 1860 Copiah County Census, there was only “One Free Colored” living in Copiah County. Is it possible that that “One Free Colored” was Bill Terry ????
